YesaYa’s “D.P.W.M” Sounds Like Confidence Earned the Slow Way!
I always root for the artist who does everything themselves and forever will. YesaYa is one of those guys, too.
He’s a Malawian rapper, singer and producer based in London, and he writes, produces and releases his own records with no label holding his hand. Rap is the base, but listen closely and you’ll catch R&B-style singing and African rhythms slipping into his songs. He grew up on Malawian rhythms and folklore, then bounced between Malawi and the UK, so he’s got a foot in two worlds.

Now, about his latest release. “D.P.W.M” which stands for Don’t Play With Me, and I’ll admit the title made me raise an eyebrow. But let it sink in for a few seconds and you'll notice the beat is huge and cinematic. YesaYa flips between rapping and singing, so the verses hit hard and the hook lodges itself in your head. So my verdict: it’s a gym track, a headphones-on-the-commute track, maybe even a late-night drive track where you replay every person who ever doubted you.
Independent artists run on people like you and me hitting play first, so check out the song now!
