Seattle has no shortage of bands, but every so often one shows up that feels like it’s been living in your head rent-free.

The Night & The Dirty is a trio: Kelly McShane on vocals, Jeremiah Robinson on guitar, and Michael Waller on keys. A rotating cast of Seattle’s finest drummers fills out the sound, which I think is a very cool way to run a band. They record at Behold The Mighty Hunter in Edmonds, WA, and they call what they do “Surf Drench.” Dark skies, a little damp, some country and folk dust blowing around, and loads of feelings that got stuffed for way too long.

Now, “Reflections.” It is a guy taking stock of his life. There are the friends he stopped calling, the people he hurt, the town that wore him down, and the homes where nobody talked about the hard stuff. Somebody tells him she sees no progress, and instead of getting defensive, he just agrees and sits in it. That floored me. The band calls it an emotional release, and I think that’s the right way to describe it.

So here’s your homework. Grab your headphones, put your phone on DND and listen to “Reflections” all the way through. Follow The Night & The Dirty while you're at it because I have a feeling Seattle is going to have a hard time keeping this band to itself.
