"Mi Amada and Other Love Songs" is Cyberswamp's 20-year-long musical journey fit into one amazing album.

Sacramento-based songwriter, Robert Radcliff, in 1998 challenged himself to write one song per day, which eventually led to the creation of his musical project "Cyberswamp".

From a solo project, Cyberswamp now has evolved into collaborative, multi-gen effort involving musicians, vocalists, teachers, family members and even music-store employees. It is influenced by genres like R&B, Rock, Latin American beats too.

Cyberswamp's album, "Mi Amada & Other Love Songs" was released last year after decades of work, shelving and reviving by Nic Radcliff. Inspired by Jeff Buckley's album Grace, Robert Radcliff wanted to make an album in which every song would feel "epic". The artist describes these songs as "mini movies", with music designed to create a strong cinematic impression.

The album has a total of 13 songs, each with its own impact and unique identity. Because the production spans across 20 or so years, the album is an amalgamation of older analog-era recordings, and modern electronic production techniques.

The title track, "Mi Amada", sound very old-school pop, with Brazilian guitar chord progression. Very Latin American, with warm, enjoyable rhythm and smooth, sultry male vocals. It somehow took me back to my Enrique Iglesias era. They aren't similar stylistically, but the vibe felt familiar to me. I personally did not understand the lyrics, but the vocals conveyed all the passionate emotions really well.

Next in line is "All the Same". It is soft, very pop-like stylistically. And the reflective lyrics are accompanied by the gentle guitar chords.

"You Can't Handle The Truth", might feel similar in music, but the vibe is completely different than the earlier track. This one is very socially and polically aware, making us reflect upon our beliefs based on just what is shown to us. Musically, it is rock-heavy, with strong drums, and a steady rhythmic structure. The lyrics "truth will set you free" hit harder when you realise the song was written during the 2021 attack in the U.S. Capitol.

Fourth song of the album is "First Impressions". It starts off very smooth, with a jazzy vibe and slowly progresses into being a R&B-Rock number with seamless transition. Mark Boerner has done a commendable job as the lead guitarist for this track, because the guitar solo at the 2:38 minute mark was certainly the highlight of this track for me.

"When Day is Done" is again a very soft, romantic-poetry vibes song that caught my attention quietly. In the beginning, there is some hand-played percussion sound in the background that is gone the second it came, but somehow became the highlight for me. The gentle lyrics with that alluring singing certainly made me want to sway the night away with my lover.

"Ring of Fire", the 6th song of the album, brings a nice change of pace. It is more upbeat, a bit more lively. And Rob Lemus, on the bass, does a great job adding magic to the general vibe of the song. The vocals are definitely the highlight of not just the song, but the entire album. The singer's voice is just like melted honey to my ears.

The ninth track, "World We Never Made", gas a very gentle, soothing vibe with soft lyricism. Sato, a Japanese exchange student who worked with Radcliff during the early stages of the the project is playing bass in this track, recorded sometime in 1998 before he returned to Japan.

Next one is "My Beloved One", a classic romantic pop song with heavy R&B influence.

Overall, the entire album was very enjoyable experience, but "Mi Amada" remains my favourite. Go try this unique album for yourself to see if it fits your vibe.
