If You’re Not Talking About CASPER’s Debut Album, "POSSESSION" Yet, Catch Yourself Up!
CASPER is one of those artists who is not making music for anyone's approval. There's simply no genre he's trying to fit or even want to. His whole schtick is built on his skills with heavy electronic sounds, distorted synths, stacked vocals, y2k club excess and what not!
The result brings us his debut album, POSSESSION, a 14-track debut that feels like every era of pop colliding at once.
Casper's debut album is about a lot of things: obsession, fame, nightlife, lust, insecurity. But at its core it's really asking one question: "When you build a larger-than-life version of yourself, who's actually in charge?" CASPER himself put it best: "POSSESSION" feels like every version of me fighting for control at the same time." You'll feel that all the way through.

The album's opening song, "MERCY" wastes absolutely no time. It starts with that relentless back-and-forth between wanting something and daring the other person to give it to you. The tension keeps on building even when you think it's already peaked. What a thumping opening statement!
"FAMOUS TONIGHT" is CASPER at his most theatrically petty, and I mean that as the highest compliment, by the way. The song is essentially a public dragging dressed up as a pop anthem. "RECKLESS" is where CASPER sneaks the vulnerability in when you're not expecting. The chorus is all bravado and adrenaline, and then right in the middle of it, the whole song shifts. I believe It's one of the more interesting songs on the record. Next up, we have "VIP." It is a straight-up club track, nothing else. Just a groove, a beat, a vibe and an invitation. Sometimes that's all you need, and honestly it's a good breather!
"PARTNER IN CRIME" might be my personal favourite off the whole record and I'll tell you why. It's the most cinematic CASPER gets without losing his popstar energy. The Bonnie and Clyde thing could've been cheesy but it works well in his favour. There's a line, "we don't need a destination, just tell me where to turn tonight" and something about it just works. Rockstar games, I'm looking at you. This song might be a great addition to the GTA 6 radio.
"ELECTRIC CITY (GET DOWN)" is pure chaos and I respect it fully. This is the crowd-work track, the one built entirely for a room full of people losing their minds at 1am. Seems like the ultimate local anthem disguised as a club record. "MISERY" slows things down a bit. There's a specific kind of misery in being left hanging with no explanation and CASPER expresses it beautifully.
Out of this whole record, I think "MEDICATION" is the one I'd show someone who's never heard of CASPER before. The main theme of the song which is, someone getting into your system like a drug you didn't ask for but also kind of did is executed with a precision that makes the rest of the song feel inevitable! The self-delusion is so specific it's almost uncomfortable. Almost. But mostly it just sounds incredible. "LAND OF MAKE BELIEVE" closes everything out, and it's the right call. It's more about not being deceived by someone else, but deceiving yourself.
So, in my opinion, "POSSESSION" might not be perfect or everybody's cup of tea. But honestly? The imperfections just add their own effect to it. This is a debut that actually has a point of view. Which, if you ask me, is the most interesting place for an artist to be!
