I Put Kevin Honold's "Waterfall" On During a Bad Week, and It Kind of Wrecked Me (In a Good Way)

Kevin Honold is a New Jersey-raised artist who came up through wind ensemble, marching band, and high school pit orchestras with a tenor sax practically glued to his hands before he ever picked up a guitar in college. He writes, arranges, and co-produces everything himself, and he's been doing it alongside University of Vermont friends-turned-bandmates Luke Fox and Trevor Michalak, who've stuck with him since day one.

Now, about his latest release: I truly just went in expecting a chill acoustic tune and got smacked in the face with joy. "Waterfall" is a really fun listen.

Honold apparently wrote this one during a brutal stretch in his life. Where grief piled on top of political chaos piled on top of being burnt out as a human and once I knew that, the whole thing recontextualised for me. It's a song about clawing your way back to gratitude and meaning every second of it.

My two cents: Go through Kevin Honold's discography, because between "The Forge" and this release, he's clearly building toward something bigger and to be very honest, I want a front row seat for whatever comes next.
