Deportee is a hip-hop artist born out of a childhood that spanned eight different countries, courtesy of his mother, Sylvia Curran, a high-ranking US diplomat. Add to that the fact that he and his mother were expelled from Uzbekistan in 2006 for her political activism, and you start to understand that Deportee isn't someone who makes art for the fun of it. He makes it from experience, from conviction, from the gut!

'Black Women Are Not Cheap' is the kind of song where the message and the music stand as an irrefutable statement. Deportee said the song was sparked by a music video he watched, where a man grabs a woman without ever showing her face. That single moment of erasure lit a fire, and what came out of it is this phenomenal song.
