"Sing-Along Songs" is the Catchiest Critique of Mindless Pop You'll Ever Mindlessly Hum by Arn-Identified Flying Objects and Alien Friends

Arn-Identified Flying Objects and Alien Friends (let's call him Alien Friend) was originally the guitarist and vocalist of the Swedish band Redmoon. Having worked with him across multiple articles now, I can tell you: this guy operates on a different frequency!

"Sing-Along Songs" was first released in 2024, but this album version feels like the track finally growing into its own skin. My personal favourite upgrade was David Myhr's background vocals on the second and third chorus. They're stupidly catchy, the kind of thing you catch yourself humming to unknowingly. The "ding-a-ding dong" in the end-chorus shouldn't work, but yet it works. It works embarrassingly well!

This is a song about wanting to talk about things like love, fear, the state of the world. It's ironic in the most precise way: a song about the demand for sing-along songs that is itself, inescapably, a sing-along song! I think that's a really clever joke, and I think Alien Friend is very much in on it.
