Sofia-Emiliana's "Ashes & Shadows" is a classic heavy metal album with pop vibes
Singer-songwriter and composer Sofia-Emiliana started their music journey at age 10 with a classic guitar. The artist has created a vocal, and artistic identity which features their original writing and concepts along with a female vocal performance made using generative AI.
Sofia-Emiliana's original, debut album "Ashes & Shadows" explores inner turmoil that comes with complicated relationships. It's a 10-track, hard rock, Heavy Metal album with the themes of love, trust, betrayal, disappointment, fear, loss, and growth; this album works as a story flowing through the songs rather than it just being a collection of random, unrelated tracks.

The album opens with "Two Shadows", "Never at the Same Time", and "Burn the Yesterday". All three songs are guitar-heavy tracks with classic rock tunes, but a very romantic, emotional pop song vibe. All three have a similar musical essence, deliberately acting as a bridge to the three consecutive chapters of a larger story. The first one, in particular, focuses on the difficult realisation that moving forward with your life sometimes means walking away from people and things you might not yet be ready to let go of.
The fourth track of the album, "Beautiful Disaster" begins with an exciting element. After the first three songs lull you in emotionally, you don't expect this one to start with a hum that transforms into a scream. The rhythmic beats, raspy male vocals- it's all classic heavy metal music with really cool guitar riffs. The small part at the 2:55 minute mark is my personal favourite. It barely lasts, but it still caught my attention and kept it. This one definitely made me tap my foot along.
"Burn the Silence" starts slow and gentle before the drums come in. The anger in the vocals is so apparent, adding to the impact of this track. Hurt alchemised into power is exactly what this song feels like.
Next in line: "Nothing Left to Fear". It is less of a song and more like a war cry. This powerful and emotionally raw track filled me with a rigorous energy that I would definitely use for my walks. The guitar solo at the 2-minute mark definitely scratched some sort of itch in my brain.
"The Last Match" has a different vibe than the earlier songs of the album, keeping you invested enough. This one has this quality to it which makes me feel like it belongs on the soundtrack of some badass character.
Next is "When the Devil Knocks", carrying forward the vibe of the previous song, making me bob my head along.
"No Saints Left" starts off with a strong guitar solo that I absolutely love. Again, a classic rock track with a very pop-like bridge.
The last track of the album is "After the Ashes". It starts softer with beautiful piano chords. The softer female vocals and the lyrics all make it feel like we've come full circle, matching the vibe to the very first song. But then midway through, this song develops its own unique identity. It was truly enjoyable.
The album isn't inspired by one particular artist or style; the creator is open to a wide range of genres, giving him the advantage of having multiple musical approaches in this heavy metal album.
Give this one a try if rock and heavy metal music is what you enjoy.
